“AI is at the top of the agenda for organizations, but Robot-Proof puts the focus back on the key differentiator: people, and the human capabilities required in an era of smarter technology. With intelligence, a mountain of evidence, and a fresh creative lens, Ming dismantles the lazy myths of the AI age and offers an essential survival guide for a world drowning in automation.”
―Paul Daugherty, Former CTO, Accenture, and author of Human + Machine: Reimagining Work in the Age of AI
“With a beguiling combination of direct language and humor, Vivienne Ming dismantles the foundations of both utopian and dystopian AI myths. Robot-Proof offers a blueprint for turning artificial intelligence into augmentative intelligence and encourages us all to utilize that most essential of human skills―the ability to adapt in the face of a challenge.”
―Paul Donovan, Chief Economist at UBS
“We're hearing a lot about what AI can do. Vivienne Ming shows us what humans can do, and why it matters. She brings the science and the story to a critical moment when the future of work will be defined not by technology, but by what we choose to do with it.”

From the Inside Flap
What is your purpose when a machine is perfect? What is the value of a human mind when all the world’s answers are free? What skills will matter when AI handles the answers, and automation replaces cognitive work? As artificial intelligence transforms every aspect of our lives―from the jobs we hold to the teams we build to the way we educate our children―these questions have never been more urgent.
In Robot-Proof: When Machines Have All the Answers, Build Better People, theoretical neuroscientist and serial entrepreneur Vivienne Ming―a self-described “professional mad scientist”―delivers a brilliant, wry, and deeply personal guide to our AI-driven future. The book explores what it truly means to be human when machines have all the answers. Weaving together her own unbelievable life story―from homelessness to building an AI to treat her son’s diabetes―with cutting-edge neuroscience and a healthy dose of humor, Dr. Ming provides a playbook that is as entertaining as it is profound.
Through compelling questions and eye-opening insights, Robot-Proof examines what predicts long-term success for children and adults alike, why the smartest teams aren’t what you think, and how the terrifying Informational-Exploration Paradox is reshaping our world. Dr. Ming introduces the concept of ill-posed problems―messy, complex challenges with no single right answer―as the key to robot-proof work, education, and humanity itself. With poignant storytelling and careful attention to the human experience, this book reveals why psychological constructs like metacognition, creativity, curiosity, and socio-emotional competence will matter more than ever in an AI-driven world.
Robot-Proof is essential reading for anyone hoping to thrive in an unprecedented era. Whether you’re a business leader navigating digital transformation, an educator preparing students for an uncertain future, a parent wondering how to raise resilient children, or simply someone trying to make sense of AI’s explosive growth, this one-of-a-kind book will help you understand the path forward and what it will take to remain relevant, valuable, and fully human.
